A name that means gentle companionship.

Rifqa is built around a simple idea from our own tradition, that noticing someone quietly, without judgment, is itself an act of care.

A row is only whole when everyone in it is accounted for.

A brother or sister stops coming, and often, no one truly knows why.

It could be illness. It could be a private struggle they are carrying quietly. It could be that their iman has grown weak, and what they need most is someone to check in before it grows weaker still.

An imam who wants to reach out first has to know who to reach out to. Until now, there has never been a simple, gentle way to find that out.

A scan at the door is all it takes.

Each Friday, a worshipper opens Rifqa and scans the mosque's code at the entrance. Rifqa quietly checks that they are really there, comparing their location against the mosque's own coordinates, and nothing more. No cards to carry, no names on a public list, nothing complicated to learn.

When a few Jumuahs are missed, Rifqa speaks up gently.

If someone has not been seen for a few Fridays in a row, both they and their imam receive a quiet notification. Not a warning, not a flag on a screen. Just an opening, maybe it is time to check in, to sit together, to do jaula. The whole point is to close the gap before it grows any wider.

A note on why this exists

Rifqa is a solo project. I built it hoping it could be of some real benefit, a small way to put a skill Allah gave me to use for something He asks us to care for, the closeness and the health of our own communities.

I do not say that to make it more than it is. It is simply an honest attempt, offered hoping only for His reward. If it helps even one imam reach one worshipper before a gap grows too wide, then, Allah willing, it has already done what it set out to do.

Uganda today. Every mosque, Allah willing.

Rifqa is currently available in Uganda, where this idea first took shape. But the quiet gap it responds to is not a Ugandan problem. It exists wherever Muslims gather for Jumuah. Allah willing, that is where Rifqa is headed too, one mosque and one community at a time.

Rifqa is still growing, and it was never meant to grow alone.
