Rifqa was built to help mosques care for their community, not to watch over it. This page explains, plainly, what we collect, why we collect it, and who can see it.
Our approach, in short
- We collect only what's needed to confirm you attended Jumuah and connect you with your mosque.
- We check your location for a moment when you scan, then let it go. Your movements are never stored.
- Your own attendance is yours. Your imam sees only enough to reach out with care, never a browsable history.
- We don't sell your data, run ads, or hand your information to anyone beyond what's needed to run Rifqa safely.
Information we collect
When you create an account, we ask for your email, phone number, full name, gender, age range, and the region and district where you live. This lets us keep you signed in, connect you to the right mosque, and give your imam an honest picture of who prays there, nothing more specific than that.
If you register a mosque, we collect its name, location, contact details, and optionally an account number for sadaqa, so members who wish to give can do so directly.
Each time you mark your attendance at Jumuah, a record is added to your own history, showing that you were present, at which mosque, and when.
To keep Rifqa fast, secure, and free of abuse, the systems behind the app also collect standard technical information, such as your device type and IP address, the same way most apps and websites do.
About your location
Rifqa confirms you are really at your mosque by comparing your device's location with the mosque's own, at the exact moment you scan. That comparison happens once, right then, purely to decide whether the scan counts.
Your coordinates are never saved. Not if the scan succeeds, not if it fails. Once the check is complete, they are gone. Rifqa has no record of where you have been, only whether you were present at your mosque on a given Friday.
How we use your information
We use what we collect for a small number of clear purposes:
- To sign you in and keep your account secure.
- To connect you with your mosque and confirm your attendance.
- To let an imam offer a gentle check in when someone has been missing.
- To give mosques an honest, aggregate picture of their congregation.
- To verify that a new mosque submission is genuine before it goes live.
- To keep Rifqa fast, stable, and protected from abuse.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it.
Who can see your information
Your own attendance and streak are visible only to you. An imam sees aggregate counts for their mosque, and only once someone has missed several Fridays in a row does a name appear, along with just enough detail to know who to check on.
An imam cannot look up an individual's full attendance history, at any time, for any reason. That kind of browsing was deliberately left out, since it would turn a tool meant for care into one that feels like being watched.
Rifqa administrators can access information only where it is genuinely needed, to verify a new mosque, resolve a support request, or protect the platform from misuse.
How long we keep it
We keep your account details for as long as your account remains active. Your attendance history is kept so your streak stays meaningful over time, and so your imam has an honest picture to work from, not a fragmented one.
Your location is never stored in the first place, so there is nothing to retain there, whatever the outcome of a scan.
We are still finalizing exact retention timelines for closed accounts. In the meantime, you can reach out at any time to ask about or request removal of your information.
Services we rely on
Like most apps, Rifqa depends on a small number of trusted service providers behind the scenes, to host the app, keep it secure, monitor its performance, and deliver the one time codes used to sign in. These providers only ever process information on our instructions, and only to the extent needed to keep Rifqa running safely.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to access the information we hold about you, correct anything that is wrong, or delete your account entirely. You are also welcome to simply ask a question about how your information is handled.
Rifqa currently operates in Uganda, and we handle your information in line with Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019.
Children
Rifqa asks for an age range as part of every account, so a mosque can better understand who prays there. Where a younger member's account exists with a parent or guardian's knowledge, everything in this policy applies to them in full, with no lesser protection.
Changes to this policy
If anything meaningful changes in how Rifqa handles your information, we will update this page and the date at the top. Where a change is significant, we will make a reasonable effort to let registered users know directly.
